Reno Review

Before you sign, get a second set of expert eyes on your plans and quotes. We tell you whether the price is fair and whether the builder stacks up. Most importantly, we show you where the design will let you down, and how to fix it while it’s still just lines on paper.

The quotes

Price and reputation: the starting point.

  • Like-for-like comparison: what’s in, what’s excluded and what’s only a provisional sum
  • PC and allowance amounts tested against real-world prices for your finishes
  • Missing items that become variations later: waterproofing, electrical, making good, skip bins
  • Payment schedule, deposit and contract red flags
  • Builder licence, home warranty insurance and complaint history checked
  • Whether a price is high, low or about right, and why

The design

Where the real value is.

  • Layout and flow: door swings, clearances, circulation and how the room really gets used
  • Storage that fits your life, not just the drawing
  • Lighting plan: layered, practical and flattering
  • Fit and finish: materials, junctions and details that last and clean easily
  • Where to spend and where to save, with alternatives that keep the look
  • What to leave out entirely

Questions

What do I need to send?
The drawings or plans you have (even hand sketches), your two or three quotes, and a few photos of the space as it is now. PDFs and phone photos are fine.
How long does it take?
Usually five business days from when we have everything, faster if you have a deadline. Tell us your decision date in the form.
Do you recommend builders?
No. We take no referral fees or commissions, which is what keeps the advice independent. We’ll tell you what to ask any builder, and what their answers should look like.
Is this engineering or certification advice?
No. This is a design and value opinion. Structural, waterproofing compliance, plumbing and electrical sign-off remain with your licensed trades and certifier, and we’ll flag anything they should look at.
I’m not in Sydney. Can you still help?
Yes. The review is done remotely from your documents and photos, and the walkthrough is a video call. Sydney clients can add an on-site visit.
